FAQs

Where are you based?

I’m based in the Northern Colorado Front Range. I split time between Boulder and Fort Collins, about an hour from Denver, depending on traffic.

Do you travel and does it cost more?

Traveling is a large aspect of my life and I would absolutely LOVE to travel to photograph your wedding or elopement. There is virtually nowhere I’m unwilling to go, so long as it’s “mostly” safe. Generally, I charge the cost of travel plus (up to) 2-3 days lodging for weddings outside of the Front Range and the rest of the USA and internationally. There are no travel fees for weddings in the NOCO and Southern Wyoming area’s.

What is the return time on images?

Expect 6-8 weeks on average, for final delivery of images between May and October. While it may take only 3-4 weeks to deliver smaller weddings and engagement sessions, larger weddings and elopements take more time to edit and prepare for delivery.

Who owns the rights?

While you retain licenses to print as many personal use images however you’d like, Alton Richardson Studios, LLC retains any and all copyrights to all images taken. As is standard in the wedding photography industry, you do not retain any rights to sell any of the images for profit, or to publish your images anywhere without direct consent and approval from ARS, LLC.

How many photos do we get and do you edit?

While the exact number of images depends on the final package, typically you can expect to receive 50-70 images per hour of standard wedding coverage. This is not all of the photos from an entire day or session. I edit out and eliminate the unflattering shots, the setup and test shots, out of focus and poorly framed shots and the closed eyes and weird faces. From there, I cull the set down to the final totals to meet the package needs and I will likely attempt to over deliver when possible.

I prefer to nail the shot in camera, however that doesn’t mean I don’t “edit” your images to my style. With considerations around exposure, skin tones, white & color balances and sharpness. A mostly photojournalistic style of editing. “Advanced Photoshop Services” are available for an additional fee and depending upon the needs, may be outsourced to a professional editor.

How do we get our photos?

I deliver initial selects, high resolution and web-sized files through a private online gallery via a personal link. From there you will be able to download images as well as order prints. Additionally, I do a final image delivery via a USB hard drive, after digital download.

Can we get prints or albums?

Absolutely! And I would love to recommend certain print services depending on what you are looking for. You can order prints from me directly as well as full, professionally designed albums and zines.

How long do I have access for and do you backup?

You will have access to the digital download for up to three months once they are made available online and your images will be available for up to one year from your wedding day at no additional charge for the data transfer.

I keep redundant backups of all your images on hard drives and online backup systems. While I will always keep copies of your images that you can access, I encourage you to create multiple backsups for yourself as well.

What gear do you use?

I have used Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras throughout my career, but currently I utilize the Canon EOS Digital Systems and L-Series lenses for all my still photographic work. As well as a number of additional flash and strobe accessories.

Do you carry insurance?

100%. Please reach out if your venue requires a certificate of insurance.
