Brittmarie & Nghia | Brown Palace Engagement Session

I just LOVED this session at the Brown Palace Hotel (opened in 1892!) with Brittmarie & Nghia. They met at the Ship Tavern bar one New Years eve so it was incredibly fitting for the hotel to be the location for their engagement session. We had a blast during the 2-hours and I so wish we had more time inside! It was also my first shoot with the Canon R6 Mk2 and I honestly think that camera made this whole session such a success. Not only is low-light performance absolutely incredible (I had usable images at ISO 5000!) but the auto-focus is a serious game changer for me.

This session in particular was a great litmus test for the new camera as the Brown Palace has a restriction on the use of flash indoors and our evening session would provide very minimal window light in a very windowless building. So I know I’d be relying on what ever light sources just happened to be available. Starting outside was great, we got some awesome evening light and worked around the flatiron shaped façade as well as the adjacent streets. Moving inside we only had 45 minutes to shoot so we sorta worked our way up the floors and then back down and into some other spaces of the hotel before finishing our session up again outside. I tried to utilize as much natural, lined up compositions as I could, showing both the intricate details of the buildings interior as well as the grandiose of it all as a whole. It’s just crazy pretty in there.

Below are some favs from our time at the Brown Palace Hotel.
